Brian McCardie was a talented Scottish actor who left an indelible mark on both stage and screen. Born on January 22, 1965, in Glasgow, Scotland, McCardie began his acting career in 1989 with an appearance on the BBC soap opera EastEnders.McCardie's early life was marked by a strong passion for acting, which he pursued throughout his teenage years. His dedication to his craft led him to various roles in television and film, showcasing his versatility and talent. In the 1990s, he gained recognition for his role as Alasdair MacGregor, the brother of the title character, in the 1995 blockbuster film Rob Roy alongside Liam Neeson.Throughout his career, McCardie appeared in a wide range of productions, including the BBC drama Line of Duty, where he played the role of Tommy Hunter, a gang lord turned police informant, in the first two seasons from 2012 to 2014. He also starred in various British series, such as Time, Crime, The Tower, Domina, and Rebellion, and had roles on Shameless and Outlander in the United States.In addition to his television work, McCardie's film credits include The Damned United (2009), Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997), 200 Cigarettes (1999), Low Winter Sun (2006), Filth (2013), Ghosts (2014), Caton-Jones' Our Ladies (2019), and Damaged (2024).McCardie's passion for acting extended beyond his on-screen performances. He was known for performing readings of his own poems at various venues around Ireland and was filming them for distribution online.Tragically, McCardie's life was cut short when he passed away suddenly at his home on April 28, 2024, at the age of 59. His sister, Sarah McCardie, shared the news of his passing on social media, describing him as a "wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon". McCardie's death was met with an outpouring of grief from the acting community, with his talent agency United Agents and BAFTA Scotland among those paying tribute to his remarkable career.Though his life was cut short, Brian McCardie leaves behind an impressive body of work that showcases his versatility and dedication to his craft.
