2. Blood Clot Controversy

The Vaxzevria vaccine faced scrutiny due to reports of Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), a condition characterized by blood clots and low blood platelet counts. While the overall risk of TTS remains low, health authorities closely monitored the situation. Some countries restricted its use to specific age groups or paused vaccinations temporarily.

3. Efficacy and Safety

AstraZeneca’s vaccine demonstrated 76% efficacy in preventing symptomatic illness during a U.S. trial. However, the company faced criticism for using outdated information in its initial report, which had stated a 79% efficacy rate. Despite this, the vaccine remains safe and effective overall.

Notably, Vaxzevria continues to be 100% effective against severe or critical forms of COVID-19. It also showed 85% efficacy in adults aged 65 and older. AstraZeneca plans to seek U.S. emergency use authorization for the vaccine in the coming weeks.
